Married Tax Payers: File Jointly or Separately?

It's a new year with new tax rules. DailyFinance has put together a good write-up showing when it makes sense for couples to file jointly, lowering the amount their income will get taxed; and when to file separately because being married and filing jointly will actually increase the amount they'll pay. In general, this article suggests that the separate filing is most beneficial for high-income couples who are each making several hundred thousand dollars--good problems to have, we suppose. Give this article a look and make sure you're not paying more than you need to purely based on how you file.
