MSNBC is running a great online presentation showing the pricing change through the last 50 years of how much it costs to get to and celebrate Thanksgiving with your family. This includes travel expenses, a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people, and hotel stay. For example, a turkey dinner in 1959 cost $8.36 (in 2009 dollars). By 1979, that turkey dinner jumped to $21.91. This year--as you're about to find out--is $42.91. Shockingly, though, the overall price hasn't increased all that much. In 1959, the overall price was $161.25 and today it's up to only $165.79. The highest price was $209.27 in 1979. Check out the full presentation (here) and be sure to mouse around the object on the screen to see what was going on at the time. Share your Thanksgiving plans in the comments section.
