Happy Marriage is Good for the Heart, Literally

A new study of 225 people who underwent coronary bypass surgery from 1987 to 1990 found that married people are more than twice as likely as single people to be alive 15 years after coronary bypass surgery. The research was published in the journal Health Psychology and was co-authored by Harry T. Reis, a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. Overall, 55 percent of patients survived 15 years or longer (61 percent of the married patients and 30 percent of the unmarried). However, an amazing 83 percent of happily married women and men survived where only 29 percent of women in unhappy marriages made it and 60 percent of the men. Reis concedes that this study doesn't mean that a marriage license will improve your survival rate, but that, "Marriage gives you purpose in life, and feeling like you have a reason to live is an important part of doing the things you need to do to stay alive," Reis said. "Married people also help each other, remind each other it's time to take their pills. And they probably eat healthier." These ancillary factors continue to pile up in other studies as well. Study confirms health benefits in marital relationship. A happy married life helps a patient to recover from a heart surgery. The connection it brings like the happiness within for a full recovery.Article I read entitled Key to you surviving following heart surgery could be a good marriage discussing related matter. It is good to know that marriage has good effect in a couple's survival аftеr a major health operation. A relationship that would truly last in sickness and in good health.
