I like to think that although one partner isn't responsible for 'making' the other person happy, it is a mutual responsibility to avoid behaviors that create tension. Happiness is a state of mind and can't be made by someone else. I believe that a person has to be happy with themselves, the choices they've made, and where they are in life and no one else can 'make' someone happy.

Mutual respect, thoughtful debate and compromise are important to a relationship and these will contribute to creating a pleasant environment.
